Norwich City have suffered a major injury blow, with top scorer Jon Rowe set for 'months' on the sidelines with a serious hamstring injury.

The flying winger, who has 13 goals for the Canaries this season, limped out of the dying stages of Saturday's 2-2 draw against QPR on his return from a broken hand.

City have been anxiously waiting for the results of Rowe's scan, which paints an unfortunate picture over the severity of his issue. He joins defender Shane Duffy on the injury list.

Rowe was absent for City's 4-2 win over Watford and is set for an extended period on the treatment table, but David Wagner remains hopeful that the 20-year-old could make a return before the end of the Championship campaign and for any potential play-off involvement.

"Unfortunately, it is a serious hamstring injury. I can't give a serious timeframe, but we speak more about a couple of months rather than weeks," Wagner updated after City's win over Watford.

"We have to wait and see for the first four weeks how he progresses in his rehab to give a clearer picture of his timeframe.

"We strongly hope that we will get him back at the end of the season and that he will play for us. Hopefully, the season will not be finished at the beginning of May."

Despite having a bulk of the squad now available, Wagner and his coaching team are having to manage certain players' workloads - including striker Josh Sargent, captain Grant Hanley and winger Onel Hernandez.

City's boss elected to start Jacob Sorensen at centre-back for Tuesday's win but hopes Hanley will be ready for the visit of Cardiff this weekend.

"We have not the easiest situation at the minute because we have a squad together, but a lot of them can't be on their highest level so we have to manage them," Wagner said.

"Grant did fantastic against QPR but it was totally clear that we can't give him two days in a row between three days. It's impossible.

"We saw what happened against West Brom with a player who had a similar injury. We have to make sure that he consistently stays healthy. This is why we made the decision. He will be ready for Saturday."
