Norwich City have confirmed that Flynn Clarke has joined National League North side Scunthorpe United on a season-long loan.

The midfielder, whose contract at Carrow Road expires at the end of the season, has been training with the Irons following his release from prison.

Clarke, 21, was jailed for 12 months in September 2023 and banned from driving for 30 months, but has been released before serving the full jail term.

He was driving a BMW when it swerved into the opposite carriageway, hitting a motorhome head-on at 50mph near Thorney, Cambridgeshire. Evidence of the use of nitrous oxide - a popular recreational drug better known as laughing gas - was found in the car. Six people suffered serious injuries in the crash.

The driver of the motorhome, a 59-year-old HGV driver who was on holiday at the time, suffered multiple serious injuries while his front-seat passenger, a 60-year-old woman, was also injured. One of four passengers in the BMW, a 21-year-old man, also suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to hospital.

Following Clarke's jailing, Norwich City said it was considering the matter internally “in accordance with its own disciplinary procedure”.

He has remained contracted to the club, but it is unlikely his stay at Carrow Road will be extended beyond the summer.

Clarke signed for Norwich from Peterborough United in June 2021 for an undisclosed fee but he hasn't made a senior appearance during his time at Carrow Road.

After what he described as a 'difficult' 12 months, Clarke is looking forward to getting back to playing football at Glanford Park.

“It’s a great opportunity and I think given everything that’s gone on I can hopefully find my feet again and prove to people what I’m all about," Clarke told Scunthorpe's official channels.

“It’s been really difficult recently, but I’ve had amazing support from my family and my girlfriend’s family, so it’s been good to have that support.

"There’s a great bunch of lads here and the staff are great as well, so we need to ensure we take the high standards from training into the games ahead.

“I was really relieved to find out about the embargo getting lifted, I was informed half-way through training on Monday, so it probably made me train even harder."
