Norwich City are willing to sanction a permanent departure for Polish winger Przemyslaw Placheta before Thursday's transfer deadline, with Championship clubs including Rotherham United monitoring the situation.

The winger, who has entered the final six months of his contract at Carrow Road, has been told he is free to find a new club this month. Rotherham are keeping tabs alongside other Championship clubs.

A return to Poland has been ruled out, however - with the financials too high for top-flight sides in his home country to compete. Placheta's City contract is unlikely to be renewed.

He has been missing from City's last three matchday squads in the Championship but did make the bench for their 3-1 FA Cup replay victory over League One side Bristol Rovers last week.

Injuries have frustrated his progress in Norfolk, with Placheta making 61 appearances. He also spent time on loan at Championship side Birmingham. He has made just three Championship starts this season, but hasn't recorded a full 90 minutes since pre-season.

David Wagner has experimented with playing the 25-year-old as a left back, but the form of Sam McCallum and Dimi Giannoulis has pushed him down the pecking order at Carrow Road.

Placheta's exit would be the latest sign of Norwich trimming their squad after the departures of Adam Forshaw to Plymouth and Hwang Ui-jo's return to Nottingham Forest. Sporting director Ben Knapper has been keen to reduce the size and age of City's playing group.

Wagner warned against allowing the Polish international to depart the club this month if there was going to be a limited amount of incoming activity when asked about Placheta's situation after City's 2-0 victory over West Brom last Saturday.

“This is a difficult question because I think we should be very careful not to limit us in terms of numbers,” he said. “At the minute it looks, ‘Yes, okay he didn't make the matchday squad,’ but everything can change in a week. We all together know.

"And this is exactly the competitiveness which I've spoken about which we have in the group, that even Shemy has not made the matchday squad but for the next match maybe it's someone else for whatever reason, tactical reasons or whatever.

"We have to be quite careful. I addressed this already to Ben not to be too short with the numbers - if we are not able to get somebody in - but the window is still open and we will see what will happen."
