Adam Crowther is to leave King’s Lynn Town.

The highly-rated central defender is expected to join National League side Southend United, whose transfer embargo has recently been lifted.

A statement released by Lynn confirmed his exit, without saying where Crowther was heading.

While no fee has been announced, it was rumoured to be around £35,000, plus a sell-on clause, when links with Southend first emerged.

The statement on the club’s official channels said: “The club can announce that we have agreed with another club to sell Adam Crowther.

“We expect the deal to be completed in the next 48 hours pending paperwork/medicals.”

Chairman Stephen Cleeve said “Adam was a superb servant for the club, and he will always be welcome back. Whilst we know some fans will be unhappy about his departure, we promote talent and we will never stand in a player’s way of taking a step up.”

Crowther, 23, joined the Linnets from Cheshunt in June, 2022. He has made 74 league and cup appearances for Lynn, scoring eight goals – he has started 19 National League North games this season.

It leaves Linnets boss Adam Lakeland with two dedicated central defenders in Josh Coulson and Kyle Callan-McFadden, although when questioned about Crowther’s future after Saturday’s home defeat by fellow strugglers Darlington, said he had replacements in mind.

“We've identified numerous players that could potentially come in and fill that void,” he said. “But we can't really do anything until we know what the lay of the land is on any outgoing so it's up in the air a little bit as it has been now for a few weeks.”
