Norwich City are reportedly among a host of clubs monitoring highly-rated Aldershot midfielder Josh Stokes.

The teenager has attracted attention from higher up the pyramid after an impressive start to life at the National League side since joining from Sudbury in the summer.

TeamTalk are reporting that Norwich are among a clutch of clubs from the Championship and League One to be monitoring Stokes, having sent scouts to run the rule over him ahead of a potential January move.

The report adds that Ipswich, Charlton, Derby and Sunderland have also been keeping tabs on the 19-year-old. A fee of £1million is reportedly the valuation for the young star.

Stokes has taken to National League football like a duck to water and is now commanding interest from the EFL, less than six months after moving to the EBB Stadium.

Stokes has netted 12 goals in 24 games for the Shots - helping push them within reach of the play-off places in the National League. Aldershot are managed by former King's Lynn boss Tommy Widdrington.

A former Ipswich Town academy graduate, Stokes was released as an under-16 and had to forge a career through the lower leagues.

He helped Sudbury secure promotion from the Isthmian League North Division to the Southern League via the play-offs, scoring 16 times from the wide right position. That form earned him a permanent contract at Aldershot.

Stokes revealed in a recent interview that his aim is to one day return to Portman Road and represent his boyhood club - who are currently sitting in the top two of the Championship table.

"My dream is still to play for Ipswich Town, either in the Championship or Premier League," he told Shotley Penisula back in June. "I will always have that dream of playing for Ipswich."

Norwich are expected to look to strengthen in the January window, but the focus will be on pruning their first-team squad.

Jaden Warner is poised to be among the City players to depart on loan with League Two side Notts County interested. Tony Springett and Emmanuel Adegboyega are also set for spells away from Carrow Road to continue their development.

Sporting director Ben Knapper is leading City's business for the first time in the upcoming window having succeeded Stuart Webber in the role in November.
