Aveley 4 King's Lynn Town 0

Mark Hughes's job is on the line after his King's Lynn Town team exited the FA Cup after a replay in Essex on Monday night.

Lynn - who drew 0-0 with Aveley at The Walks on Saturday - trailed by a goal at the interval, but conceded another three after the break. It is the first time Lynn have failed to make it past the second qualifying round since 2017-18.

Lynn have won just one of their nine league games and are in the relegation zone in National League North - having finished runners-up to AFC Fylde last season but missing out on promotion after losing at home to Kidderminster Harriers in the play-off semi-finals. That game was Hughes' first defeat after five straight wins as caretaker manager following the departure of his predecessor, Tommy Widdrington.

Hughes was given the job on a permanent basis in the summer, but lost a number of key players and his attempts to get back on track have been hampered by injuries and below-par performances.

It leaves owner Stephen Cleeve with a big decision to make - Lynn travel to Warrington this weekend before a scheduled return to The Walks to face Buxton on October 7.
