Adam Idah has nothing to prove to David Wagner, after another goalscoring cameo in Norwich City’s unbeaten start to the new season.

Idah has had to defer to Ashley Barnes and Josh Sargent for a starting shirt in the early weeks, but struck his second league goal in four substitute appearances to seal the 4-0 Championship win at Huddersfield.

The Republic of Ireland international also got the Canaries' campaign off to a bang, with his 96th minute winner on the opening weekend against Hull City.

Idah is in line to feature in Tuesday's League Cup at Bristol City, and could be a key figure in Wagner’s plans if Sargent’s suspected ankle ligament injury rules him out longer term.

“Adam is in a very, very good shape and in very good form as well,” said Wagner. “You can see it in training, you can see it when he started at QPR, and I think his first goal, a very important goal against Hull on the first day, when he was in the right position at the right moment really gave him a boost.

"This is what you've seen in training as well. He was able to show it on the pitch for a longer period in the (Huddersfield) game after the injury to Josh, but got some cramps at the end, so we have to work on his fitness.

"It was great that all three strikers scored, but it was how they worked that pleased me. We did exactly what we wanted to do to make them play long balls, and let our defence and centre backs deal with that.

“Not just Adam but all our subs made an impact again. I wasn’t quite happy with that aspect against Millwall, because the performance dropped for the first time I felt this season after making changes.”

Idah also served up the assist for Jon Rowe’s fifth goal of the season at Huddersfield, on a day when City scored four times from five recorded shots on target.

“It sounds very clinical. But to be fair, I think we had a few other very, very good opportunities and were able to score more,” said Wagner. “It's always good if you are clinical, especially away from home, especially at a place like Huddersfield.

"That is a difficult place and there will be a lot of teams struggling there for sure.

“Nobody knows better than me how difficult that place can be. This was a big win, because Huddersfield away from home if you don't get the lead, or you give chances away, the supporters can make a difference.

"Offensively we were able to break their man marking idea with very good movements, and scored some very good goals.”
