Norwich City head coach David Wagner believes Arsenal loanee Marquinhos is improving for the Canaries, but has challenged the Brazilian to push himself even further.

Marquinhos arrived in January on a deal until the end of the 2022-23 season, and has endured a mixed start to life at Carrow Road.

The 19-year-old struggled with injury upon his arrival in Norfolk, but scored and assisted on his Norwich debut, helping them to a 2-0 win over Cardiff City.

He's played five times under Wagner since then, with a red card at Huddersfield Town overturned after the club's appeal.

The German believes his first signing is improving in yellow and green, however, telling the Pink Un: "He is a very happy boy, he always has a smile on his face.

"He's settled into the group here very well. You can feel it, you can see it. Especially in the last weeks, he's shown a lot of energy as well. You can see that his curve is going upwards, for sure.

"He had a good performance (in Saturday's 1-0 defeat) against Sheffield United. Our right side with him and Max (Aarons) looked absolutely competitive.

"That performance has shown this, and hopefully he can continue on Friday and in the next games as well."

The former Sao Paulo man's 93rd-minute strike from range was City's only shot on target in that dour loss to the Blades, as their pattern of attacking struggles.

With Onel Hernandez, Marcelino Nunez and Kieran Dowell out injured, many have turned to Marquinhos as the solution to those problems.

Some may worry about the pressure that puts on the young forward, but Wagner believes his charge should see it as an opportunity.

"You call it pressure, I call it a chance," he continued. "There is a chance. At his age, coming over from Brazil on loan from Arsenal.

"He has a chance, because of the situations we have, to explore himself and try his best to play with freedom and fight as hard as he can when he has the Norwich shirt.

"I see it as a chance, I don't see the pressure."
