Marcelino Nunez’s brace eased a strong-looking Norwich City development side to a 5-2 Premier League Two win over Leeds United’s Under-21s on Friday at Colney.

Nunez started and finished the rout in front of watching head coach David Wagner, assistant Christoph Buhler and first team coach Andrew Hughes.

Abu Kamara also notched a double with Adam Idah on target before Leeds substitute Connor Douglas grabbed two late consolation strikes.

Angus Gunn got the nod in goal for the hosts, who have a blank weekend at senior level, with Liam Gibbs and the fit-again Jacob Sorensen deployed in a deeper-lying midfield pairing.

Chile international Nunez was pushed into an attacking number 10 role, flanked by Danel Sinani – who has been the subject of reported interest from the Championship approaching deadline day next week – and Kamara.

Idah offered a mobile threat up front as he looked to build on some cameos under Wagner after returning from a longer term injury lay off.

Nunez was a prominent figure in a first half where a young Leeds outfit were forced into sporadic counters.

But there was a sloppy intended pass for Sinani after Kamara’s clever pivot had threatened an early chance to test Leeds keeper Kristoffer Klaesson.

Sorensen’s strike from the edge of the area was blocked in the 15th minute before Sinani’s radar was then off as Idah looked to run in behind.

But City’s movement and attacking threat in forward areas saw the chances start to come at regular intervals. Nunez cushioned a ball to Sinani but his chip back into the six yard box was cleared, before Sam McCallum’s follow up struck the side netting.

Klaesson foiled Nunez twice within seconds, after Sorensen’s raking ball released Idah, but City did take the lead in the 20th minute with their first team collective again prominent.

Sorensen timed his slip pass to perfection for Sinani, now switched to the left, to whip in a first time cross that Nunez met on the half-volley in front of Idah to sweep home from close range.

Idah should have got on the scoresheet in the 26th minute when he rose unmarked but glanced Flynn Clarke’s cross wide of the far post.

Sorensen was booked when Sean McGurk got the wrong side in a rare moment of alarm. Gunn dealt with another in the 35th minute, when he gathered Morten Spencer’s bouncing 25-yard free kick.

Idah did get his reward two minutes later when he volleyed home at the near post after Klaesson could only parry his initial effort from Nunez’s close range flick.

The all-action Chilean was then felled inside the area after his quick feet enticed a rash challenge from Jeremiah Chilokoa-Mullen.

Nunez and Sinani appeared to fancy the spot kick but Kamara calmly rolled it into the bottom corner five minutes from half-time.

Gibbs and Clarke skied over before the break and Idah was left looking ruefully at the turf when he did the same from Clarke’s break in the 49th minute.

The Republic of Ireland international seemed to be on a mission when Klaesson foiled him again at the near post, but the over-worked Leeds stopper was beaten again in the 61st minute when Kamara got his second, rolling in a close range finish.

By then, Sorensen had departed in the first change for the Canaries' frontline options before McCallum followed. Idah resumed his personal battle of wills with Klaesson, who dived to his left to parry the Irishman’s close range header in the 72nd minute.

That relentless edge to the hosts produced a fifth when Idah turned provider with the flick crashed home by Nunez on the angle of the six yard box.

Leeds did get on the scoresheet in the 78th minute when Gunn was beaten by substitute Douglas from close range on his Under-21s debut for the Whites.

Nunez spurned a hat-trick chance when he clipped a 20-yard free kick over the top before the advancing Klaesson got his arms up to block the Chilean’s chip as he burst free yet again.

Douglas pounced again two minutes from the end with a smart 18-yard finish on his left foot after City could only partially clear a cross down their right.

Idah had the final chance deep in stoppage time when he sliced over from five yards.
