Norwich City should look at Mark Robins to take over the managerial hot-seat rather than Russell Martin.

Both ex-Canaries are reportedly among the front-runners to replace Dean Smith, who was sacked on Tuesday.

But Canaries legend Iwan Roberts says Coventry boss Robins is the better choice.

“I like what Robins has done at Coventry, on a limited budget, and I look at the way his team play," he said. "They have an energy, they are high intensity they get stuck in, a good counter attacking side.”

The bookmakers have Robins and Swansea boss Martin, plus David Wagner – who City sporting director Stuart Webber worked with at Huddersfield – Scott Parker and Sean Dyche in a five-way fight for the job.

However, Roberts says Martin’s numbers don’t add up.

“I look at what Russell has done in the game so far as a head coach and not one bit of me thinks he should get this job,” he said. “I look at MK Dons – when he left they’d finished 13th in League One. Last year they finished third under Liam Manning. There was a massive improvement after he left.

“I look at Swansea – they finished 15th last season and they are 16th now after the defeat at Reading on Tuesday.

“Don’t get me wrong, there have been times when it has been a joy to watch, but there have been times I am pulling my hair out because it is so predictable.

“There isn’t enough to impress me.”

Roberts is convinced that the City vacancy is a plum job for someone.

“I don’t care what anybody says, it is a really good job,” he said. “It is a good football club, it has great facilities, you are not just a one city club but a one county club, which is rare. There is great support at every home game.

“I think it is a very attractive job.”
