Lowestoft Town have completed the signing of former Norwich City winger Adrian Forbes on a two-year deal.

The 31-year-old goes straight into the Blues' squad for their Ryman League Premier clash against Wealdstone tomorrow.

Joint manager Micky Chapman believes the signing shows a real statement of intent from the club, saying: 'It's a really good signing for us and Adrian will prove to be a very welcome addition. His signing adds to what is already a very strong squad.'

Forbes moved back to East Anglia this summer with his wife and three children after being released by Grimsby this summer.

If he makes his debut tomorrow he could come up against younger brother Kieron, who plies his trade for Wealdstone.

Lowestoft have been looking to strengthen their attacking options with Matt Nolan starting his recuperation from a knee injury while Joe Francis (hamstring) and Lee McGlone (ribs) have also been struggling for fitness.

Forbes won't lack for Canary conversation at Crown Meadow while he will find himself playing under a fellow former City stalwart (coach Craig Fleming) and with several others – Andrew Cave Brown, Adam Smith, Jamie Forshaw and Danny Bloomfield – who had less successful Carrow Road careers.

Forbes recently said that he was deliberating over whether choosing to prolong his playing career or to make his first steps in coaching.

He revealed that he has a burning ambition to one day stand in the technical area at Carrow Road as Norwich City's first team coach.

'That's the ideal scenario for me,' said the man who made 121 appearances for the Canaries between 1995 and 2001, scoring eight goals.

'I started there as a player and I'd love one day to go back as coach. Others have done it. Ian Crook went back and Ian Culverhouse is there now. It's what a want to do.'

Though Forbes was not short of non-league options it clearly helped Lowestoft's cause that his family - wife Rachel and their children Jordan (nine), Ryan (six) and Mason (15 months) are settled in Norwich, which Forbes re-established as home two years ago.

'I have dragged the Forbes clan around the country for a long time but we are settled now,' he said. 'It's not about Adrian Forbes any more.'

Between the Canaries and Grimsby, Forbes played had spells as Luton, Swansea, Blackpool and Millwall.

His next objective, apart from helping Lowestoft towards a third successive promotion, is to get his coaching badges and try to seek coaching opportunities.
