Middleton Hall's Jack Yule and Adam Lewarne crowned a sensational year for their club when they won the EDP Norfolk Junior Foursomes Championship at Weston Park.

They claimed the title with a par on the first hole of a sudden death play-off after three pairs tied on four-over par 76.

They shared the honours after regulation play with Simon Stevens of Dunston Hall and James Barrett of Ryston Park, and with Ben Aldous of Bawburgh and Will Collins of Dereham.

Yule and Lewarne claimed the title with a par but not before Lewarne played a spectacular shot from under a tree onto the green to within five feet of the hole.

Yule remarked: 'I put the drive under a tree and Adam had to bump it out and played a really good shot to about five feet. By the time I got to the putt I knew I had two for it so I just lagged it.

'We were really pleased. We particularly wanted the win for Middleton and it's just topped off the year.'

Already this season Middleton Hall have won the prestigious Myhill Trophy, and the juniors' inter-club competition for the KK Smith Trophy.

The youngsters also represented Norfolk in the English Junior Champion Club championship and Yule won the regional U16 title.

Middleton's seniors were also runners-up in the Barnard Trophy.

The foursomes victory was particularly sweet for Lewarne, who leaves junior ranks at the end of this season.

Afterwards he told Yule, with pleasure, that he had won his first event as a junior – at the Royal Norwich open – and his last, at the EDP Foursomes.

But, for quite a while, the pairing wondered if they had done enough. They were the first of the three tying pairs to come in and they felt they had left some shots on the course.

'We had two double bogeys and finished four-over,' said Yule. 'We thought we'd be in the top five but we had to wait until the last group came in to know we were in a play-off.'
