King's Lynn number one Kenneth Bjerre admits today's British GP at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium offers the perfect launch pad to resurrect his fading world title challenge.

The 27-year-old has failed to match last season's displays in the shale sport's elite competition which included a GP win in Sweden on his way to a top-seven finish in the overall series.

Bjerre picked up a paltry six points on home shale in Copenhagen's Parken Stadium last time out – but the Lynn racer knows he needs big points from tonight's blue riband highlight of the speedway season.

'I've been struggling a lot in the grand prix, but I have to get some points soon and hopefully Cardiff will be the one,' he said. 'The track is very similar to Copenhagen but I will just go there and try to ride it as normal. It will be a great atmosphere and it is a good place to race. I just need to make some more starts and hopefully I will have more speed than last time. That was the problem in Copenhagen. I was making good starts but I just had no speed. I'm going to try some different set-ups for Cardiff and I hope it will work.

'It has been difficult in the grand prix this year. The tracks are so much slicker than league meetings and its all about the set-up – with the introduction of the new silencers I just haven't found what I need. It's getting late in the series now so hopefully I am finding it soon but I like the big grippy tracks. I didn't make the semi-finals last year. I think I only got seven points – but it doesn't matter about what happened last year.'

Former Lynn racer and triple world champion Jason Crump admitted victory in the Welsh capital is always extra special as the chasing pack look to close the gap on Tomas Gollob and Greg Hancock.

'I really look forward to the round in Cardiff,' he said. 'The atmosphere is like no other event and it's as close to a home race as we can get. I'm a long way off the front of the pack with a 19-point deficit, but my form is picking up and I'm feeling more comfortable with things again. I always want to do well at any event but Cardiff is that little bit more special, so I'll be giving it my all come Saturday.'

GP rival Bjerre will strive to replicate his recent club form which has been a major factor in Lynn's concerted Elite League play-off push. The reigning Danish champion will also have a key role in his country's World Team Cup bid which starts next month in Vojens. Bjerre is joined by Stars' team mates Niels-Kristian Iversen and debutant Mads Korneliussen in the Danish line up.

'It's nice to see Mads getting into it and it proves if you put the effort in it can pay off so he just has to enjoy it,' he said. 'The Danish boys like winning World Cups and it is one of those events when through the weeks you ride against each other, but when the World Cup is on we all help each other. We're good mates and its going to be a good week.'
