Mulbarton's Tristan Cliffe saw his run of seven consecutive race wins in the Monoposto 2000 championship came to an abrupt halt when he crashed at Oulton Park.

The defending champion was hopeful of an eighth straight class win after qualifying his Omicron Dallara in pole position, 1.6 seconds clear of Malcolm Scott in second, with Richard Purcell and Kourosh Khani on the second row.

Khani make a great start, taking the lead into the first corner, with Scott second and Cliffe third. Cliffe took Scott on the first lap and passed Khani tat the end of that lap.

But on lap four he was momentarily distracted and lost control of the car, smashing backwards into the safety barriers at 61mph.

Though Cliffe was unharmed a lot of damage was done to the car, ending his weekend action.

Khani took the chequered flag but was disqualified for removing a mandatory air restrictor between qualifying and the race. His exclusion promoted Scott to the race win with Richard Purcell second and Cliffe's team-mate Tony Bishop to third.

Cliffe's car may have suffered a few dents but his championship title tilt remains intact as only 12 of the 14 race results count towards the overall standings.
