The starting gun for the Dereham 5km race was today (Sunday) fired by a man who knows what he is doing with a pistol.
Britain's most decorated Commonwealth athlete, shooter Mick Gault, set hundreds of runners off on a route through the town.
Beginning at the Dereham recreation ground, the athletes completed two laps of the circuit which included High Street, Norwich Street and Station Road, before finishing back where they started.
The winners of the men's and women's races were James Preston and Kelly Rushton, who were presented with trophies following their victories.
The 5km race was followed by a 1km fun run for families around the recreation ground.
Each junior fun runner wore a t-shirt designed by St Nicholas Junior School pupil Joshua Monteiro. The Dereham youngster won a competition which asked children to come up with images which reflected the ideas behind the London 2012 Olympic Games.
