New Norwich cycling club Iceni Velo had plenty to celebrate as the Elmy Cycle League rounded off the season with a team event and award presentation.

Their promotion of the Broome Heath Scramble was voted the best promotion of the season, Tim Guy won the Ross Monaghan Trophy as best League member in the Regional Championships and Phil Buick won the Veterans', the largest category in the league.

Another Norfolk club, the Fakenham-based East Coast Riders came third in the voting for the best promotion, for their promotion at Hempton in November.

'I was changing gear by instinct,' said Buick who was first home in the veterans' race.

Former Norwich resident Hayden Wood sped to a three-minute win among the seniors, but the team win went to Ipswich BC.

Norwich Amateur Bicycle Club took fourth place in the team awards with Barney Horne (14th) Peter Cornwell (24th) and Martyn Taylor (25th), with Neil Shave and David Moore ready to provide back-up if needed.

n A highlight of the Godric Cycling Club dinner at Bungay was the presentation of a clock inscribed 'Time Well Spent' to Doreen Stevenson, a member for over 50 years, whose service to the sport as a timekeeper is appreciated far beyond the Waveney Valley.

Service to cyclists in another vital area was marked by the award of the Gong Trophy to Caroline Dwen, proprietor of Rosie Lee's in Loddon, where food and good company, both such essential elements of the club cycling world, are available in such full measure.

The Great Yarmouth CC celebrated a tremendous year at their lunch at the Burlington Palm Hotel.

The club had an average attendance on clubruns of 18 while 40pc of the total membership is in the under 16 age group, and their fleet of 12 club bikes have been used for more than 450 rides. Forty-six free junior racing vests have been awarded, thanks to support from sponsors Pedal Revolution and DAP UK Ltd.

The Memorial Shield for service to the club was awarded to Norman Harlow and among those winning racing awards were Seth Houlgate , Zak Coleman, James Jordan and Neil Turner.
