Wroxham's trip to Premier Division leaders Ely tomorrow night took on extra significance as the Yachtsmen slipped five points behind the Cambridgeshire side with defeat on Saturday.

David Batch's side lost 1-0 at FC Clacton, while Ely won 3-1 at Hadleigh United. Wroxham were defeated by Matt Cripps' late free-kick strike, with the visitors still organising their wall.

The one consolation for the Yachtsmen on Saturday was that fellow challengers Brantham also lost, at CRC.

Dereham's match at Mildenhall on Saturday was abandoned after 38 minutes, with the score at 0-0, when the hosts' David Cooper was seriously injured.

Cooper was taken to hospital with concussion and whiplash injuries, but later released.

A disastrous spell at the end of the first half cost Gorleston dearly as they crumbled to a 6-0 defeat at Felixstowe.

The hosts went ahead after 20 minutes, but it really fell apart for Gorleston after Felixstowe netted their second on 32 minutes. Two more goals were added to the home side's tally in the next 10 minutes and before the break Greens striker Christy Finch was sent off for clashing with a Mildenhall player.

Gorleston's 10 men rallied after the break, but two late goals completed the rout.

Norwich United leapfrogged their hosts and League Cup final opponents Stanway Rovers, moving up to sixth with a 1-0 win.

Lee Hunter scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot on 37 minutes after Louis Cutajar was brought down in the area.

Hunter was denied a second by a point blank save from the Stanway keeper, while at the other end Stanway hit the crossbar and had a last gasp equaliser ruled out by the assistant's flag.

The two sides meet again in the League Cup final on May 7.

Kirkley & Pakefield were unable to move clear of the bottom four as they lost 2-1 at fellow strugglers Walsham-le-Willows.

Ryan Crisp scored for the visitors, who are now just three points above Walsham-le-Willows, having played two games more.

Wisbech were held to a 0-0 draw at home by Woodbridge, with Stacey Cartwright sent off for the fourth-placed Fenmen.

Thetford Town won their fifth successive league game to stay top of the First Division on goal difference. Nathan Szyszlyk fired Thetford in front at Debenham after just eight seconds and further goals from Steve Harley, Matt Dixon (2) and Bruno Tavares wrapped up a 5-1 win.

Joe Jackson gave Swaffham the lead at home to Thetford's title rivals Godmanchester, but the visitors recovered to win 6-1.

Downham Town suffered a sixth successive league defeat with a 2-0 reverse at Long Melford.
