Hethel-backed Lotus is set to get an extra day to test its E20 2012 challenger, having pulled out of the second winter test in Barcelona earlier in the week.
The former Renault team had to abandon this week's four test days after just one morning and seven laps with a chassis problem.
As a result the Enstone team has requested an extra track day, which would require consent from the other 11 teams on the Formula One grid.
Given Mercedes were granted an extra day earlier this month after forgoing the final day of the opening test in Jerez, Lotus should get permission to do likewise.
It has been reported Lotus' extra test will take place on February 27, two days before the final Barcelona test starts.
Team principal Eric Boullier has already stated his confidence Lotus will have the chassis problem – believed to be related to the front suspension – fixed in time.
