Mulbarton windsurfer Nick Dempsey earned a silver medal at the RS:X World Championships on Wednesday after strong winds ended the competition in Cadiz early.
The 31-year-old was hoping to put in a bid for gold, but the final two days of competition – including the final day's medal race – were hampered by the bad weather, leaving Frenchman Julien Bontemps to take top honours.
However, Dempsey was happy enough: 'I'm pretty much exactly where I want to be,' said Dempsey. 'Overall I'm happy with how things have gone and can't wait to get home and back to training. I raced well every day, but made a few errors and was a bit unlucky.'
Dempsey, talking to BBC Dorset, added: 'It's probably the windiest event I've ever been to in my life and it made for pretty good racing, but it was frustrating to have a few days missed.'
Dempsey is already assured of his place at this summer's London Olympics and the windsurfer, who represents a serious gold medal hope for Team GB.
