Kevin Wolbert's stunning show at Brandon on Friday wasn't quite enough to see the Stars to their second away win of the season.

Wolbert won four of his seven races as Lynn dominated for long spells - but just like at Poole on Wednesday, they were denied at the end.

Stars, with three riders absent due to Grand Prix qualifiers and doubling-up duo David Howe and Joe Screen unavailable, had gone for Brandon experience with their guest bookings.

Rory Schlein and Ricky Wells were joined by Simon Stead - all former Coventry men, with Stead coming in on the day for the unavailable Nick Morris.

The home side were also missing two of their regulars, and they appeared the more unsettled early-on with the Stars making a blistering start.

After a re-start to heat one when Schlein and Edward Kennett came down, Lynn leapt from the start with Schlein and Stead taking a 5-1, and that was backed up in the next race by regular reserves Wolbert and Mateusz Szczepaniak to put them eight points clear.

Coventry then found some gating form to gain a foothold in the meeting, and when Schlein conceded maximum points to Chris Harris and Aaron Summers in heat five, the home side had cut the gap to two - and they levelled in the next race as Kennett rounded stand-in skipper Daniel Nermark on the second lap.

A shrewd change from boss Rob Lyon brought Wolbert into heat seven and the German won to put the Stars back ahead - and he repeated the feat in the very next race with Schlein with him all the way to rebuild a six-point advantage.

When Nermark superbly held Harris at bay to win Heat nine the Stars had control, but the pressure increased when Adam Roynon partnered Kennett to a shock 5-1 over Stead and Wolbert in the next.

Roynon then won heat 11 but the Stars shut out Sebastian Ulamek - only for a big setback in the next race with Roynon shepherded home by Harris over Stead and Wolbert to put Coventry ahead for the first time.

Heat 13 was shared with an up-and-down Ulamek winning the race, and the home side then packed the places in the penultimate race with Wolbert rounding off his fine night with a fourth win.

Stars needed a 5-1 in the last race to snatch victory, but it all went wrong on turn two as Nermark straightened and impeded Schlein, sending the Bees well clear and leaving Schlein to recover to salvage a league point with third place.
