Last week was a busy one, with two games standing up to the weather and an early Christmas night out to talk about.

The Norfolk Senior Cup tie away to Thetford finally went ahead on a later than expected Thursday night. With players like myself being suspended and others rested it was a new look side that played. Like the Stamford game, a few of the reserve lads made the trip and again played a very positive part in getting a win. It seemed a comfortable 3-0 victory, with all the goals coming from Turns (Turner).

It was good to see him scoring again and he showed everybody in the ground what a good finisher he is. It's a cup the gaffer (Gary Setchell) is taking seriously so it was pleasing to get the result and progress into the quarter-finals.

One man who had a quiet night was Danny Gay which was just as well for his old man. The reason for this is that I have been reliably informed Danny put in a late-night call to his dad to meet him so that he could collect his kit bag. This was so he could clean his kit and boots for Saturday's game at Leek Town. I know the reaction I would get if I rang home and asked for this. I've got to say Dan you have a top dad, but you're 30-years-old!

We travelled to Staffordshire at the weekend and the whole squad was desperate to get back to winning ways after our previous two Evo-Stik Division One results. I'm sure the game must have been in doubt given the drop in temperature, but credit to them for getting it on.

It was a very tricky surface which served as a reminder to us all how fortunate we are to have a pitch like ours. Parts of the pitch were frozen and others were very soft but it was the same for both sides.

It was a match for digging in and working really hard to try and get a result. We rode our luck a couple of times midway through the first half but got a break with a penalty. Turns who had come on for Dunks (Dunkley), following his hamstring strain, did well before being brought down by their keeper. Up stepped Spriggsy (Spriggs) who I'm always confident about from the spot and he made no mistake in giving us the lead.

It was more of the same second half. On a tough pitch everybody worked really hard but we couldn't quite see the result out. I was disappointed with the goal we conceded as their striker got a lucky rebound off myself. He had tried a flick which just hit my shin, landed straight back to him, which he put away to level the scores. I don't think anybody could argue with the result and given the circumstances I have a feeling it could prove to be a useful point.

As I mentioned earlier we had a night out planned for after the game. There was a good turn out for it, with the exception of just a couple who had plans. This is another indication of the growing team spirit we have got. A quick shower and change at the hotel and then down to the bar – where the gaffer never seems to be far away from.

As the boys appeared from their rooms, a few questionable outfits were on display. Streaky (Ryan Fryatt) and Sam Mulready were dressed for a Caribbean climate, Sam in a t-shirt with some ankle-swinging jeans. Maybe I'm just getting old but it was freezing out. Despite being warned about our singing in most bars we all had a great night. The group stuck together before a few started to drop, making a drunken journey back to the hotel.

With our next game on Saturday being a home one against an earlier opponent Hucknall Town we will be looking to get another three points and kick on ahead of an important festive period. Look forward to seeing everyone at The Walks.
