One week after the re-scheduled Southern Cross Country Championships, the Nationals took place in Herrington Park, Sunderland.

Persistent snow made it a very tough and demanding course for the small group of City of Norwich athletes who made the journey.

By far the most impressive was Olivia Walwyn, who again produced a superb run resulting in a highly placed fifth, beating several top international runners who had finished ahead of her in the Southern Championships just a week earlier.

Team-mate Kelly Rushton also had an excellent run to finish 37th in a field of over 400. Esther Hope ran a solid race to finish further down the field but a respectable 176th.

In the Junior Women's race, Iona Lake continued to impress, finishing seventh and young Nastassja Potgeiter proved once again that the tough cross country conditions suit her well, coming through the finish line in 33rd position.

In the Under-17 women's race, Jihanna Bonilla-Allard and Megan Soanes finished 66th and 83rd respectively. In the Under-15 girl's race, only representative, Ellena White finished 197th.

In the senior men's race of over a thousand runners, Jonathan Quint finished a dependable 344th.

Jordan Ali and Tom Hook were just 16 places apart in the Junior Men's race finishing in 52nd and 68th place. Similar positions were achieved by Dominic Oliver in the U17 men's race (56th) and the U15 boy's race by Ashley Waterson (57th) Luke Spear (79th).
