A light Easterly gusting force three, clear skies and warm sunshine provided an idyllic afternoon of competitive club sailing on the Waveney for Beccles ASC – although low water was problematic for some.

Twelve helms were on the RNLI Pennant start and Mark Langston in Streaker Small Beer was chased by Charlie Folkard up to the windward mark four until after both ran aground straying close to the Norfolk bank.

Mike Thrower in Laser J slipped past both while in deeper water and remained ahead for a lap until Langston made up the ground to take the win. After a flying start by Folkard in race two he remained clear ahead of Langston and the Enterprise of Kevin and Pippa Edwards, who he battled for second and third, to take his first win of the season.

Eight juniors lined up for the Poyser Cup races. Poppy Roll had the best race one start with George Curtis in Optimist Bittern hot on her heels. Elena Edwards in Topper Bubble remained ahead and untroubled during race two while Folkard and Rowan Curtis exchanged places for second and third.
