Marc Goodfellow and Sam Mulready's stunning goals put the pre-Christmas icing on the King's Lynn Town cake in this stunning Evo-Stik Premier victory over high flying AFC Fylde at The Walks on Saturday.

However, there were many other tasty ingredients for Linnets fans to devour in a win that is probably the highlight of boss's Gary Setchell's maiden Premier Division campaign to date.

Big spending Fylde, backed by a millionaire businessman and tipped by many for promotion this term and with only one away league loss prior to Saturday, arrived in West Norfolk with a swagger befitting their lofty league position.

They left with their tails firmly between their legs as, not for the first time this season, Town ran themselves into the ground. They covered acres of turf in the process, to produce a result which on the final whistle was thoroughly deserved by a team who never know when they are beaten and give an honest commitment of work ethic week in, week out.

This performance just wasn't about the goals which would have graced any Saturday evening highlights programme.

Goalkeeper Liam Mitchell, only signed as cover for regular stopper Alex Street who was suspended on Friday, produced a string of fine saves, including a superb block to deny the dangerous Marcus Carver in a one-on-one situation when the scores were level just before the interval.

Centre back Ryan Fryatt again produced a display that belies his tender years.

Time after time he threw himself at the ball, winning tackles and making life a misery for his opponents.

In midfield Dan Quigley was just awesome, hassling, chasing and forcing players into mistakes, turning in a man of the match showing that helped his side to the three points.

Of course it's goals that win games and either of Lynn's two would have been worthy of winning any.

The first owed much to Mitchell's quick thinking at the other end of the park. His clearance picked out the hard working Massiah McDonald who glanced the ball to Goodfellow who produced a moment of sheer brilliance to half volley the ball past a motionless Ben Hinchliffe in the Fylde goal to give the Linnets the lead on 54 minutes.

Jack McGovern glanced a header wide when well placed moments later. The holidaying Dan Jacob was introduced to rapturous applause and he warmed Hinchliffe's hands with a long range rasper.

Aiden Chippendale almost made Lynn pay for the missed chances but again found Mitchell in commanding form.

Deep into stoppage time substitute Sam Mulready calmed any flutters in home supporters' hearts as he coolly beat off two defenders before dispatching a curling low drive past Hinchliffe to seal a famous victory and set up his team perfectly for the festive run of games ahead.
