Lowestoft Town striker Shaun Bammant is determined to make an impact for the Blues this season in their first Conference North campaign.

The big centre forward, who completed a permanent move to Crown Meadow from Dereham over the summer, was on target in the Trawlerboys' 1-0 win over Wroxham in a pre-season friendly last weekend.

And with competition for places likely to be fierce up front, Bammant is looking to cement his place in the Lowestoft forward line ahead of the big kick-off on Saturday, August 9 at Chorley.

'I enjoyed my time at Lowestoft last season and I was really glad to get it sorted and get a contract all done here,' he said.

'It was nice to open my account in pre-season and hopefully I can keep pushing for a starting place when the season starts properly.

'There's a lot of competition for places but all you can do is play to your maximum and hope it keeps you in the side.'

Bammant linked well with fellow summer signing Jefferson Louis, with the veteran striker once again demonstrating an impressive ability to hold the ball up and bring others into play.

'He's a handful – I think it's good for me to play up front with someone like that, someone that I can learn off,' added Bammant, who is likely to be competing for a starting berth alongside Louis with Bradley Woods-Garness. 'The more and more games that you actually get to play together the better we will get.

'It's all happened really quickly for me but I'm really enjoying it. Hopefully I can keep it going and show I can handle the step up.'

Lowestoft continued their impressive pre-season form on Tuesday evening by seeing off Dereham 3-0 at Aldiss Park thanks to goals from Robert Eagle, Sam Gaughran and Jack Ainsley. The Blues look in fine fettle ahead of their Conference campaign and Bammant insists Lowestoft won't be just making up the numbers.

'I think we can do as well as we want to do,' he said.

'I know this bunch of lads want to do really well and they are used to being successful.'

Lowestoft, who host Leiston today, were boosted by the news this week that Joe Marsden has signed a two-year deal at Crown Meadow after impressing on trial.
