Stewart Larter's Wroxham got off to a solid start in their Ryman North campaign with a 1-1 draw against Ware at Trafford Park.

A new look Yachtsmen team – who only included three players from the side that played in their last Ryman League outing against Erith and Belvedere in April – ground out a hard fought point, with promising signs for Larter and his men against an impressive Ware side.

Both sides made a slow start to proceedings, with the midfield players of both teams controlling the ball and making for a very cagey opening half an hour.

Matt Halliday had a stabbed effort towards goal stopped with ease by Ware goalkeeper Rhys Madden, whilst Jamie Forshaw – who signed from Sudbury at the end of last month – had an attempt on goal blocked by a stout Ware defence.

The visitors then had the best chance of the half as Keiran Bishop almost broke the deadlock, connecting with a Samir Hadi cross at the back post that Elliot Pride was quick to smother from point blank range.

The second half began in a much more open manner, Forshaw almost getting in again after some good interplay with Christy Finch, only for his effort to be palmed away by Madden.

Bafode Carvalho then came close with 50 minutes on the clock for Ware, finding space on the edge of the area to fire in a fierce shot that Pride palmed away.

The game began to tighten up again, and it was unsurprising that a set piece led to the opening goal, with Wroxham seizing the initiative.

Finch's 63rd minute free-kick was palmed away by Madden, the ball falling to Jack Garrod whose delightful lofted ball in beat the 'keeper and found Gordon waiting at the back post to nod in for 1-0. The Yachtsmen were almost in 60 seconds later, another set-piece allowing Steve Taylor a chance from 10 yards out that he blasted straight at Madden.

Despite this spell of dominance from the home side, Ware were still not done and they found themselves back on level terms seven minutes later as Bishop outdid Halliday for pace, before rounding Pride and slotting into the empty net for 1-1.

Albert Adu then had a snapshot just wide, before Gareth Madden headed against his own post as both sides searched for a winner, but it wouldn't come as both sides had to settle for a point apiece.
