Kirkley & Pakefield have been reinstated into the second round of the FA Vase after Colney Heath were thrown out the competition.

Colney Heath beat the Royals 3-2 at Walmer Road earlier this month but it transpired the St Albans-based outfit had fielded an ineligible player as he had not been registered to play in the competition.

Kirkley have therefore been awarded the tie along with the £900 prize money for getting through to the second round where they will now face AFC Dunstable on Saturday, November 22.

Manager Jamie Godbold is determined for his side to take advantage of their reprieve and has set his sights on a trip to Wembley.

'It's a massive boost for a club like us,' admitted the 34-year-old, who took charge of the Royals in the summer of 2013 following Paul Tong's departure. 'From my point of view it's another crack at the competition and one we're determined to make the most of.

'There is a lot of prestige that comes with the competition and there is the chance for clubs to earn a bit of money along the way.

'I've played at Wembley because of the competition during my time with Lowestoft and getting there is achieveable for clubs like ours. It's about having the belief you can get there as much as anything.'

The news of Kirkley's reinstatement didn't come as a total surprise to Godbold, whose side couldn't overhaul a three-goal deficit conceded in the opening half-hour against Colney Heath. 'They had a new manager come in just before the game and they had made a lot of changes from the reports we had got on them,' he said.

'We thought there might be a chance that one or two might have been ineligible and that's how it's turned out. They took a risk and have paid the price.'
