Wroxham climbed to third in the Ryman League North table last night as two goals in as many second half minutes saw them to a narrow victory over a spirited Cray Wanderers.

The Yachtsmen can count themselves lucky to come away with all three points, with their lowly opponents dominating for much of the encounter.

Stewart Larter made two changes from the side that defeated local rivals Dereham Town on Saturday, with Danny Rust and Payton Swatman replacing Ben Price and Jack Garrod, who dropped to the bench.

The visitors were much the better side against a tired looking Wroxham side in the first half and went ahead through Chris Piper's 12th minute strike.

Piper then had an effort tipped onto the post by Elliot Pride on 18 minutes, with Danny White heading wide in Wroxham's best opening of the half.

The second half continued in the same vein as Cray pressed Wroxham's defence – Alex Teniola looking particulary lively – before two tap-ins in quick succession from Remy Gordon and Nathan Stone turned the game on its head.

The Yachtsmen then dug deep to hold on as Cray pushed them to the end, Pride tipping away Orlando's Smith's acrobatic effort deep in injury time to preserve Wroxham's lead and help them climb further into the play-off positions.

• It was also a good night for Dereham Town, who bounced back from a poor run of results with a 2-1 victory at Waltham Abbey which gave their flagging play-off bid a timely boost.

The hero of the night was Luke Tuttle who scored both goals for the Magpies, who had lost their previous three matches,

Tuttle scored the only goal of the first half on 26 minutes to put Dereham ahead and then doubled their advantage midway through the second period.

Jason Hallett struck for the hosts 13 minutes from time to ensure a nervy finish but Dereham held on to move up a place to sixth in the table.

Dereham will now be looking to follow up this win against Harlow Town at Aldiss Park on Saturday.

Wroxham meanwhile follow Dereham to Waltham Abbey.
