Tom Vosper, 23, said he has the charity to thank for the fact he still has his dad, David, 64, who was diagnosed with cancer about two years ago.

The tournament will see six amateur teams battling it out to get their hands on a 'Big C trophy' at the Memorial Playing Field in Hethersett on August 28 at 11am.

Mr Vosper, who is from the village but now lives in Norwich, said: 'After my dad was diagnosed with cancer he underwent chemotherapy and he was given the all clear early last year. All the research done by charities such as Big C is the reason that he is still here. So the tournament is to say thank you to them and also publicise the work that they do a bit more.

'My dad's a big football fan and I thought the perfect way to raise money would be to hold a football tournament.'

The day will also include a barbecue, cake stall, face painting, and a raffle with prizes including a Jarrold gift voucher, and a day at Dunston Hall.

Teams playing will include the Hethersett Sundays, Brayford AFC, The Middle Green FC, Micawbers Tavern, Hethersett Saturdays and Newsman Celtic.

Anyone who wants to donate can do so online at www.justgiving.com/fundraising/Tom-Vosper2016. Gifts for the raffle can be made by emailing Mr Vosper at TJV21@hotmail.co.uk or calling 07908 463297.
