With a weather eye on the forecast, first-time visitor Melvin Kennell, from Mundesley, decided against his annual pilgrimage to the opening day at Pitsford Resevoir in Northamptonshire and headed for the Norfolk & Suffolk Flyfishers at East Tuddenham.

Taking advice he fished a green damsel nymph in the sheltered top corner of the bottom lake and enjoyed a limit bag. Results like this auger well for our first £10 'Try the Fly' session next Saturday – details at www.norfolkandsuffolkflyfishers.org.uk.

At Rocklands Mere, member Andrew Patrick fished the day storm Doris hit and banked an impressive 12 rainbows on bloodworms, appetizers and even on dries! Tom Shead from Norwich landed six rainbows on Sunday using a combination of bloodworm and damsel patterns. Fly choice should remain unchanged – on warmer cloudy days, try dry fly patterns.
