There was some excellent scoring in the cool but dry conditions, with Norwich City College's Briggs leading the way with a superb three under par 67.

The Dunston Hall player, who has been flying high in the world junior rankings, recorded five birdies as he defended his title and emulated club contemporary Stuart Ballingall's record of winning three years in a row.

Briggs won by four from Warren Bates of Easton & Otley College and Heacham Manor, with Liam Cossey (Easton and Royal Norwich) third on countback after a 73.

Taylor, representing Wymondham College and Bawburgh, won the girls' title with a round of 74, two better than closest challenger Chloe Gibbs (Broadland High and Royal Norwich).

The handicap champions were Jamie Fox of Taverham High with a nett 68 and Polly Norman of Downham Market Academy with an amazing nett 62 off 29 handicap. Norman won from Sian Fenn-Green (Dereham Six Form, Swaffham, 78-8-70) while Fox won on countback from Ewan Marshall (City of Norwich, Eaton, 79-11-68) and Finlay Heywood (Easton & Otley College, Eaton, 73-5-68).

The U 14 Boys' Championship was won by Charlie Green of Notre Dame High with a nett 69 off 20 handicap while Lily Farrelly (Northgate High, Dereham) won the U14 Girls' Championship with a nett 70 off an 18 handicap.

Again Norfolk went against the national trend by having 15 girls taking part and the organisers paid tribute to the NLCGA for all the work they do with emerging players.

The team prize went to Easton 3 with 136, and Heywood (68), Josh Simpson (68) and Thomas Payne (76) will go forward to represent Norfolk in the national final at Woodhall Spa in July.

The trophies were presented by Doug Gilchrist, president of the Norfolk CGU, Eaton club captain John Butler and Margo Horsburgh, president of the English SGA. The teams to represent Norfolk in the South East of England Schools' Championships at Eaton June 1 and 2 will be announced shortly.
