King's Lynn players will come out fighting after seeing their early-season form stunned by successive home defeats.

The Linnets were booted out of the FA Trophy by Mildenhall and then lost at home to Chesham - their first league reverse at The Walks this season.

Ian Culverhouse's team have built an early-season reputation for stylish football, but will head to Banbury this evening determined to prove they are also capable of mixing it when the going gets tough. Experienced defender Sam Gaughran insists the Linnets are ready to go to war for the cause.

'We have got to buck our ideas up, go again and try and get the three points,' he said.

'It is the mentality - we have to come in now thinking we are coming to war.

'It is not going to be pretty, pretty game – our mindset at the start of the game is we want to pass the ball, but we need to change that to 'now we are going to war' and then our bit of magic – and we have got magic in the changing room – will come through. We have to be prepared for aerial bombardment, winning the ball, playing forward quickly and playing in their half.'

Gaughran dismissed the notion the Linnets are a soft touch.

'We are not too soft,' he said. 'It is hard because the way we have been playing and winning games is brilliant to watch and it is brilliant to play in, it has been a superb start to the season. We don't become a bad team overnight – we have a lot of players in the dressing room who will mix it. We need to now find the way to go from pass, pass, pass to out of possession, go get the ball back and be nasty. We will find a way, we will – we have a lot of lads who are very down right now and it will change. I am more than positive it will change.'

Tonight's trip follows a 1-0 loss to Chesham on Saturday.

'Over years gone by we lose 1-0 we will be in the dressing room, the music will be on, we will move on to Tuesday. But no, we are reflecting on that,' said Gaughran. 'We have had a massive debrief from the players and the management staff. We have had a little chat and the lads are gutted, but we will get it right. That is the mentality we need at this club – people who are coming off gutted and wanting to go again.'
