John Gosden softened the blow of being forced to rule Without Parole out of the Qipco 2000 Guineas after Corelli emerged as a potential Investec Derby contender with a ready success at Great Yarmouth.
The son of Point Of Entry, who is closely related to 2007 St Leger winner Lucarno, started out on a potential path towards the Epsom Classic on June 2 with an eased-down two-and-a-half-length victory in the Conferences at Yarmouth Racecourse Novice Stakes.
Following the race the winner was cut from 50-1 into 33-1 for the Derby by Paddy Power.
Gosden said of the 1-3 favourite: 'He is a lovely horse. He would hopefully be a resolute, proper stayer. He was a bit babyish on the turn. He has learnt a lot today and had a nice day out.
'We are always thinking about it (Derby) and we have time to go for a trial in the meantime and see.
'He is a lovely horse and he has got a great attitude. There is no reason not to go for a trial. We could look at Lingfield ,as that might be a place to go, then look at Epsom or the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot.'
Shelley Birkett moved to within six winners of losing her claim after the Julia Feilden-trained Oceanus (4-1) made a successful first start on turf this year when holding off Raven Banner by a neck in the Grosvenor Casino Of Great Yarmouth Handicap.
The 3lb claimer said: 'He just really appreciated the return to turf. He has been running okay on the all-weather.
'He just wanted nice ground and the rain came just in time and the good to soft ground was perfect for him.
'They went a nice, solid pace, which suited him, and he idled when he got to the front. Hopefully he can stay in front of the handicapper.'
Things did not go to plan for Artair (11-10 favourite) first time out at Windsor, but there was no stopping the Michael Bell-trained son of Kodiac after he ran out a two-and-a-quarter-length winner of the Haven Seashore Holiday Park Maiden Stakes.
Winning jockey Jamie Spencer said: 'We expected him to do that first time, but the ground was atrocious at Windsor and he couldn't get his feet out of the ground.
'His worked has sparkled all spring and there is plenty more to come from him. He has been very easy to deal with from the get go. He should be a fun horse.'
Rae Guest hopes the one-length victory produced by Salt Whistle Bay (11-4) on his seasonal return in the Weatherbys Global Stallions App Handicap can be the start of a lucrative campaign for the well-built son of Royal Applause.
The Newmarket handler said: 'When you are rated 82 there is not much choice about and this was the ideal race for him as it was just down the road.'
Guest added: 'He has had a break over the winter but he improved all last year.
'He is a slow-maturing horse and you can see he is a big horse and the winter off has done him good and he has been working nicely at home.
'Hopefully he can keep improving and it would be nice if he could get into one of those £20,000 handicaps now.'
