Canaries keeper Robert Green has again been linked with a move away from Carrow Road.

The City number one, currently with the England World Cup squad, is said to be top of Portsmouth manager Harry Redknapp's wish list.

Green has just a year left on his Norwich contract _ although the club have an option for a further year - and City may decide that it would be better to cash in on their biggest asset this summer rather than risk losing out on him financially.

The 26-year-old Green said this week he would make a decision on his future after the World Cup - and it's likely that Redknapp will come calling.

“As far as contact with the club is concerned, there has been nothing,” said Canaries boss Nigel Worthington yesterday. “We have been there in January and we heard so many things that we take them withy a pinch of salt.”

Redknapp isn't short of money to spend at Fratton Park, with the backing of Alexandre Gaydamak's millions and a fee of between £2m and £3m would be a good return on a player who has spent his entire career at Carrow Road.

However, Worthington won't let his number one go on the cheap.

“Whatever happens it has got to suit the football club,” he said. “The football club is what matters, first and foremost.”

Pompey, and Charlton, were said to have made inquiries about Green during January's transfer window, but at that stage of the season City were still in with a chance of promotion and resisted their overtures.

Portmouth are in a position to renew their interest, but Charlton have become something of an unknown quantity following the departure of manager Alan Curbishley at the end of the season.

Redknapp wants to avoid another relegation struggle at Fratton Park and has released Dutchman Sander Westerveld and, although he has Dean Kiely and Jamie Ashdown on the books, is still seeking someone for the number one shirt.

Portsmouth have been linked with Deportivo la Coruna's Jose Molina, but Green may be a safer bet. Ashdown played most of the first half of the season, and while Kiely made the job his own from January onwards at 35 he is in the latter stages of his career.

Green will get his longest taste of England squad duties this summer and he is likely to consider the Premiership the only place to be if he wants another shot at international duty.
