Webb wants Mulryne to be spark for Lynn

King's Lynn boss Keith Webb believes new midfield recruit Phil Mulryne can help ignite the club's Southern League, Premier Division promotion push today against Bromsgrove Rovers at The Walks.

The former Norwich City stalwart is poised for his debut after signing initial non contract terms following his first training session.

Mulryne is scheduled to link up with League One Yeovil Town next week in a bid to force his way back into the professional ranks after close season trials with Bournemouth and St Mirren following his release by Orient.

The unattached Northern Ireland international has been training at the Canaries' Colney base since September - and Webb has no fears about throwing the 29-year-old into the non league fray.

"From what I saw the other night he is more than capable of giving us enough," said Webb. "He's desperate to get back playing in the league and we understand that, but he needs games so it's one of those where we can do each other a favour.

"He's fit and available for selection - I just have to monitor if he can last a full 90 minutes. At the moment he's signed Southern League forms and we'll see how it goes for the next month.

"You can never have enough good players in your squad for what we are trying to achieve. I would hope the response from the lads is they see it's another one coming in to add competition for places.

"I want them to be prepared to fight because if they just think its going to push them down the pecking order we don't want those characters here."

Webb hopes Mulryne's arrival can provide the missing midfield link.

"Phil has an eye for a pass and we need someone with quality on the ball to get it down and get us playing," said Webb.

"I just feel at the moment we perhaps have terriers in there who can go and win it for us.

"The likes of Shaun Carey and Steve Melton could do that, but they are unavailable at present. We are short and the Sudbury game highlighted the fact, so we've addressed the situation."

Carey, Jack Defty and Greg Lake are on Ridgeons' reserves duty at Stanway. Mark Heath-Preston returns to the second string after a late midweek cameo in the FA Trophy replay win over Sudbury. Steve Spriggs is drafted into the first team squad with Michael Frew (thigh) doubtful.

"We'll give him every chance," said Webb. "Mark Warren has come through training this week and he's okay to get involved.

"I want us to get back to the league now and get another run going. I'm looking for a performance and three points. Bromsgrove will make it tough for us.

"They've got a decent away record and like a lot of promoted teams everything is new and fresh, which can carry a side a long way. We're on our patch, though, so the onus is on us."

Rovers were knocked out of the FA Trophy by lower league Evesham after a heavy 4-0 league defeat at Swindon Supermarine.

Boss Rod Brown released last season's 31-goal top scorer Nathan Lamey and Marlon Walters in midweek. Striker Jermaine Clarke and Matt Birley are set to return from injury.
