West Ham are reportedly ready to up the ante in a final bid to land Norwich City striker Grant Holt.

The Hammers have failed with multiple summer bids for the 31-year-old who continues to be touted with a move away from Carrow Road before the start of the season.

West Ham vice-chairman Karren Brady last week refused to be drawn on fresh speculation the Premier League new boys had targeted Holt to bolster their strikeforce ahead of the new campaign.

That, however, has failed to stop Goal.com yesterday claiming West Ham have now finally agreed to meet City's reported 6m valuation, and pay Holt 40,000 per week to tempt the triple player-of-the-year to the East End.

Hammers' co-owner David Gold has also revealed Sam Allardyce is eyeing two more recruits before the end of the transfer window after signing Jussi Jaaskelainen and Mohamed Diame.

'We're connected with about 20 players,' he said. 'What we hope to do is to maybe bring in two, three or maybe four players by the close of the window as we start off in the new season.'

Canaries' boss Chris Hughton again stated recently he wants Holt to stay, but the Norwich boss was also linked with a move for Newcastle's Leon Best earlier this week.

Holt's regular League One title-winning strike partner, Chris Martin, was yesterday at the centre of a three-way Championship fight between Crystal Palace, Millwall and Burnley, according to The Sun.

Martin scored seven goals in 28 games during an extended loan spell at Selhurst Park last season after falling out of favour with previous Norwich manager Paul Lambert. Eagles' boss Dougie Freedman has also pledged to reinvest the money banked from Sean Scannell's weekend switch to Huddersfield. Burnley counterpart Eddie Howe is another in the market for fresh firepower after Jay Rodriguez's multi-million pound Southampton switch.

Finally, one name that appeared to have dropped off Norwich's transfer radar resurfaced yesterday with Leicester centre back Matt Mills' proposed loan switch to Bolton on the verge of collapsing. Wanderers had seemingly agreed an initial 1m loan deal with a further 1m payable in 12 months to complete a permanent move, but the Daily Record believes potential suitors Celtic and Norwich could now be back in the running.

Mills is deemed surplus to requirements in the East Midlands after his bit-part role under Nigel Pearson's command over the second half of last season.
