The bravery of a five-year-old leukaemia battler has inspired a local football team to come together in a big fundraising effort.

When people involved with Newton Flotman Football Club heard that former player Graham Beales was training for a series of runs to raise money for Leukaemia Care on behalf of his nephew, Radley Sexton, they were keen to get involved.

Now the whole club, from the under-sevens team through to the adults, will be running with Graham in a half marathon around Newton Flotman, organised and supported by Wymondham Athletics Club, on Saturday, May 19.

Club chairman, Graham Burgess, said: 'Graham's recent excellent performance in the Silverstone Half Marathon really inspired us. We know he has made an excellent start to his fundraising and we want to support that.

'Profits will be split between the club and the charity. We've already had great support from the players and their families and it should be brilliant to see club members aged six to 60 all running together.'

The club have also invited villagers to get involved by paying a 3 entry fee to run anything between one and the total 13 miles.

Graham will be running the second of his 'Radley's Runs for his nephew, who is from Mileham, near Fakenham, hoping to improve on his last time as well as raise even more money for Leukaemia Care.

He said: 'My nephew Radley has been so brave as he goes through his treatment. It seems to be going well and he remains so positive that it is really inspirational.'

The youngster will be attending to start the race at 1.30pm and cheer the runners. There will also be hot food, homemade cakes, games to join in with and a raffle.

The football club is inviting anybody who would like to support them and their chosen charity to come along on to the Alan King Playing Field, in Grove Way, either to enjoy the event or enter the run for 3.
