Mystery surrounds the future of a new Norfolk auction house after it was announced that it had been sold just three months after it was launched.

The Wymondham Salesrooms was established at the Great Expectations Business Park off the old A11 at Suton in February.

But officials behind the business today said they would no longer be operating from the site after agreeing to sell the company's auctioneering operations.

Matt Wilkins, who established the Wymondham Salesrooms, said he was not allowed to reveal the name of the new owner, but the business would be relocating to a different location in the Wymondham and Attleborough area in the next eight weeks.

He added that the deal would allow the auctioneering venture to expand under a larger group.

'It is very gratifying that, after such a short time, we have attracted so much interest. It was necessary for further investment to be made to ensure a healthy future for the firm. This will allow us to compete with the big boys,' he said.

Since the weekly Wednesday sale at Suton was launched, the auction business has grown to 900 members.

Mr Wilkins said that he hoped the current staff, which includes three full-time and about seven part-time employees, will be able to transfer to the new site.

Anyone owed monies from the last sale on May 4 will receive a bank transfer, he said. Mr Wilkins added that customers were set to be told more in the next three weeks.

'We are very grateful to the owners of Great Expectations, which has been a very lucky place for us, and to our 900 members, whose support we are very grateful for,' he said.
