When it comes to scones, these are Norfolk’s very best
The tastes of Norfolk's finest local produce were available at a raft of events around the county this weekend, including what is believed to be the only dedicated scone baking competition in the UK.
The events were part of the EDP Bidwells Norfolk Food Festival's Produced in Norfolk weekend.
The main event was at Wroxham Barns where, alongside the Broadland tourist hot spot's fifth annual scone competition, was the Produced In Norfolk food market as part of the Taste the View festival weekend.
There were 66 plates of scones to greet the judges yesterday afternoon, with five categories – plain, cheese, fruit, freestyle and under-12.
Judges this year included the EDP's Emma Lee, Helen McDermott from BBC Radio Norfolk and Jane Miller from Produced in Norfolk, who were checking for taste, texture and freshness.
Margaret Paul from Taverham wowed the judges with her rosemary, raisin and vanilla scones to win the freestyle category and Teresa Grant from Thorpe St Andrew, a previous winner, took the fruit crown.
Ruth Peake from Fleggburgh baked the top cheese scone, Ann Moore from Norwich had the best plain scone and Lewis Wakefield from Wisbech was the first winner of the under-12 category.
