A couple are gearing up to take part in a 3,000-mile charity rally to raise money for the King's Lynn branch of the Samaritans.

Jeremy Splude and Leanne Kendrick, from Dersingham, decided to sign up for the charity drive known as the Landy Rally after looking for a 'holiday with a difference' last December.

The on- and off-road drive will see the couple take in the spectacular Alps and Pyrenees mountain ranges, as well as passing through 11 countries, including Italy, Spain and Andorra, in nine days.

Miss Kendrick said the rally will run from September 14 to September 22 and their team name is Jifflin Pollywiggles, which means fidgeting tadpoles in Norfolk 'speak'.

She said: 'The route has yet to be finalised but it is likely to follow the 2010 route which started in Valkenburg, in Holland and finished in Calais and there will be as many as 20 teams taking part.

'The Landy Rally is a fun, competitive event with points awarded for 'thinking outside the box' and individuality as well as treasure hunts whilst raising money for charity all at the same time.'

She added: 'The vehicle we will be using is a Land Rover Discovery 2 which has been prepared for off-road use, including a winch and roof lights. We will also be camping every night or sleeping in the car if it is very wet.'
