A man has gone on trial after being accused of the rape of a woman in Norfolk.

Daniel Williams, 22, appeared at Norwich Crown Court having been charged with rape and another offence of assault by beating.

The case was opened yesterday by the prosecution who said the alleged rape occurred on August 17 last year and the assault by beating on August 12 last year.

The jury of five men and seven women were shown the alleged victim's police interview on DVD.

The complainant told officers she did not consent to having sex.

She said she asked him to 'stop' about five times but he said no.

The complainant also told police that the week before she was raped she was hit in her ribs and chest by Williams.

Williams, of Swaffham Road, Wendling, near Dereham, has denied rape and another count of assault by beating.

The trial continues.
