The inshore lifeboat was sent to Scolt Head Island, after reports that people were cut off by the incoming tide.
The 16ft inflatable lifeboat, with three crew on board, was launched just before 6.30pm.
But a coastguard spokesman said on reaching the island, the crew found the group were safe and were intending to camp overnight on the island.
