Forecasters say parts of Norfolk will see more snow overnight - and showers are likely to be heavier tomorrow.

And forecasters at University of East Anglia-based Weatherquest said it was likely to feel even colder on Tuesday, with the wind making it feel as chilly as -6 degrees celsius.

Dr Richard Jones, from Weatherquest, said: 'I think we will see some more snow overnight in Norfolk. It's a bit hit and miss, as to what different places will see.

'We have got snow in east Norfolk, King's Lynn and parts of north Norfolk at the moment. As the night goes on, the showers will get a bit heavier and spread a little further afield, but I don't think there will be huge quantities overnight. But there will be a covering of up to 2cm in some places.

'Through tomorrow morning, showers will be heavier than they have been today and there's likely to be more of them. There's a continued risk of a further accumulation of about one to two centimetres of snow. Not everywhere will see it, but quite a few places will see a covering.'

The wind is coming over the North Sea from the east - which has seen the weather front dubbed 'the Beast from the East'.

And Dr Jones said people would want to wrap up warm. He said: 'It's going to feel cold. It will feel like -5 degrees to -6 degrees with the wind and the air temperature itself is unlikely to get up to zero degrees.

'These are some of the coldest days we will have this winter, which is quite unusual given that we're coming up to March.'

Norfolk County Council tweeted that its gritters had been out across the county since 3pm. And they said: 'They'll go out again at 3am as more snow showers are forecast.'

And hospital bosses urged people to take care. A spokeswoman for the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital said: 'With a cold weather spell predicted over the next few days, we would encourage everyone to be mindful of the latest weather updates, stay warm, ensure they are well prepared for likely travel disruptions and have sufficient stocks of food and necessary medications.

'Our services will be running as normal and we would like to thank our staff in advance for their hard work over this period.'
