The EDP is today launching an appeal to help those men, women, children and businesses who have seen their worlds turned up-side-down by Thursday's devastating floods.
We are kick-starting our EDP Norfolk Flood Appeal with a £1,000 donation, and we are challenging our readers to respond to our rallying cry, as they always have done in the past, and dig deep to help at this time of need.
EDP editor Nigel Pickover said: 'The need on our coast is critical, and it is essential that emergency help reaches these stricken communities as soon as possible.
'There are many people who have suffered terrible loss, including some who have lost everything and, in some cases, who have no insurance.
'It is heartbreaking, and we cannot stand by and watch. That is why we have launched the EDP Norfolk Flood Appeal, and urge everybody to dig deep to help out their neighbours at their time of greatest need.
'We will kick-start the fund by donating £1,000, and will be working with all of the relevant agencies to bring help where and when it is needed most.'
Norman Lamb, North Norfolk MP, walked through the ruined streets of the coastal community today to meet businesses and residents who are now having to piece their community back together.
Mr Lamb praised our campaign and pledged £100 to help kickstart the fundraising.
Speaking inside the home of Jane Kanpp, who's beachfront home was wrecked by the storm surge, he said: 'My appeal is to anyone just to put themselves in the shoes of these people, to realise how horrific a prospect it is now.
'They need help at the moment and I think if we could all club together we could make some difference for them.'
Fundraisers Nicola Lock and Jo Rennie are also donating to our appeal.
They were spurred into action when they heard about the damage to the homes and possessions of north Norfolk people as a result of the floods.
The pair, who live at Upper Sheringham, came up with the idea of donating the proceeds of a craft fair they organised at their local village hall today.
'So many people have been affected,' Mrs Lock said. 'It is just happy memories gone into the sea, so we thought, well, let's see what we can do to help.'
The craft fair included stalls selling handmade Christmas cards, wooden homewares, knitted items and homemade jams and preserves.
Stall fees, as well as profits from a cake stall run by Mrs Lock and Mrs Rennie and a raffle with prizes provided by stallholders, will be donated to the EDP's flood appeal.
