Parents are being warned to be on their guard after two men are believed to have tried to lure girls into a van.

Norfolk police are investig-ating several incidents over the past two weeks in which two men, one on foot and one in a blue van, have tried to entice children in Watton to come with them.

The incidents have happen-ed as pupils return home from school at about 4.30pm in the Norwich Road area.

Letters have been sent to parents of pupils at Watton Junior School and Wayland Community High School warning them of the danger and police are continuing their safer neighbourhood patrols in the area at the start and end of the school day.

The man in the van is described as having dark grey hair, while the man on foot has ear-length blond/brown hair.

A police spokesman said: "We have stopped a number of blue vans in and around schools in the past few days.

"We should like to reassure parents that these types of incident are extremely rare.

"We do take these reports seriously and we will act quickly when they are brought to our attention.

"We work closely with local schools to ensure children remain safe, including regular pro-active Safer Neighbourhood Team patrols around schools at relevant times."

Junior school headteacher Pat Whitty said he had decided to warn parents after police had notified him of the incidents, adding: "We are being as vigilant as ever and, as a matter of course, we tell our children about stranger danger."

Anyone with information, or who witnesses suspicious behaviour, is urged to call police on 0845 456 4567.
