Seven-year-old Summer, who went to Valley Primary School in Hellesdon, died from her injuries when a bouncy castle ripped from its moorings and was blown 150ft in strong winds in Harlow Town Park at an Easter fun fair on Saturday March 26.

Last night saw more than 150 people light candles at what is known locally as 'Summer's gate', at Harlow Town Park. The gate itself is already brimming with dozens of flowers and teddy bears which have been left to pay tribute to her.

The rows and rows of soft toys and floral gifts acted as a moving backdrop to the lit candles, which were placed in the shape of two large hearts in beautifully hand-decorated jars. And as people consoled each other and remembered Summer, a selection of her favourite songs were played, including tracks by Justin Bieber.

At 9pm a two-minute silence took place and was followed by the number one hit, Seven Years by band Lukas Graham - the youngster's most-loved anthem.

Speaking after the event, Summer's uncle, Shawn Grant, 26, of Orchard Croft, Newhall, Harlow, said: 'She was a beautiful, confident, and very smart little girl. She was always the first to smile and when she stayed over she would make breakfast for us when she woke up in the mornings.'

Mr Grant thanked everyone who helped, donated and supported the family via the Facebook page 'Light up Harlow for Summer Grant', which has received almost 3,000 likes.

'It's been immense,' he added. 'We did not know when we set up the group how much feedback we would get from it.

'The whole town has come together and people have spent a lot of time making the jars with little decorations on them.'

Family friends Steven and Kay Maleary, of Harlow town centre, also attended the vigil. Mr Maleary said: 'We came to support the family and remember Summer.

'It's warmed everyone to know that everyone cares enough to attend and support the family and Summer and the vigil has been important to them all.'

Sarah Martin, 40, of Harlow town centre, came with her husband Mark, 42, and their 12-year-old daughter Chloe. She said: 'It's terrible and it should never have happened.

'This has been felt by the whole community here so we came to the vigil to come and pay our respects.'

Conservative MP for Harlow, Robert Halfon, was also there. He said: 'It was immensely moving. We've seen the worst of human tragedy but also the best of human nature come out. It's been heart warming to see the family of Summer supported in this way.

'It was a beautiful vigil to pay tribute to a beautiful child. It makes you want to weep.'

Last night's event was organised by family friend Danielle Prior.

Meanwhile, more than £8,800 has been raised as part of an online fund to help pay for Summer's funeral. What the remaining money will be spent on has yet to be decided by the family.

Another fundraising event, held at the Harlow's Harvey Centre earlier this week on Tuesday, raised a further £1,600 for a memorial bench and plaque to be installed.

A woman, 24, and a man, 27, both from Cambridgeshire, were arrested on suspicion of manslaughter by gross negligence in relation to the incident and bailed until May.
