A band that have adopted Norwich as their home hope to be a household name by the time they visit the city to play a gig at the Waterfront on Friday.

Papa Shango have just released a new song 'Christmas in Norwich' which needs to get 1,000 downloads in the first week to enter the top 100. And they are looking for people from Norwich to help them do just that.

While only two members of the band are Norwich-based, with the rest based in London and Hertfordshire, they started gigging at the B2/Brickmakers in Sprowston Road, and the city has become a home from home.

Vocalist and band spokesman Rob Scatchard, who wrote the lyrics for 'Christmas in Norwich', said: 'After we started gigging in Norwich, we just grew and grew, so we decided to write a song for Norwich. We love Norwich. We are now looking for some help to get it in the charts.'

The band also includes Norwich-based guitarist Steve Harcourt, who had a hit in the charts with 'Eat My Goal' by Collapsed Lung in 1996, Love Hobbs (guitar), Ryan Cowell (bass), who wrote the music for 'Christmas in Norwich', Ed Jackman (keyboards), Mark Rapson (additional keyboards- Norwich-based) and Mike Jennings (drums). The band also has several dancers in the line-up including city-based X Factor dancer, Nicola Baran.
