Darts star Bobby George was back on the oche in Norwich last night to help celebrate a city league's charity night.

The King of Darts was at Rileys Sports Bar and Snooker Club for an exhibition match for the Norwich Tuesday Independent Darts League.

And darts fans at the Magdalen Street venue got an extra treat, with fellow darts player Colin Lloyd also popping in.

Fans paid 1 to watch flamboyant Mr George show off the skills which made him one of the stars of darts over the past three decades, with all proceeds going to charity.

He also presented the awards to the winners on the night.

Mr George said: 'I play darts for fun these days. My game is a bit like the weather, when its sunny and rosy then everything goes well, but some does it rains.

'I still enjoy it and I'm happy to come to events like this. There's great people involved with darts.'

Mr George was among those who campaigned for darts to be recognised as a sport, which resulted in all the sports councils in the UK officially recognising it in 2005.

And he said he would like to see the sport he loves make an appearance in the Olympic games at some point.

He said: 'I so tend to think of the Olympics as being about the traditional sports, such as the running, the jumping, the discus and that sort of thing. 'But you see something like BMX in there and you do wonder. It's a great sport. Millions of people play it and it's not an expensive sport to take up.

'I would like to see it in the Olympics. Whether it will happen in my lifetime I don't know, but I hope one day it is.'
