Fresh flood warnings were issued for Wisbech and a lorry was blown off the road near Ely ahead of the storms forecast for the region tonight.
A flood warning was issued shortly after 2pm for the Tidal Nene, which includes Sutton Bridge and the Wisbech area, as a result of the coastal sea surge which is predicted to hit our region tonight.
High tide is expected in Wisbech tonight at 7.27pm.
The Environment Agency will be closing the Wisbech flood gates this afternoon, and Cambridgeshire County Council's highways department will be commencing sand bagging of the gullies and manhole covers within the Quay area to prevent water coming up through the drains.
Fenland District Council said it is liaising closely with the Environment Agency and Cambridgeshire County Council to monitor the situation.
Elsewhere, Roman Bank, in Long Sutton, was closed after power cables were brought down in high winds. It is unclear if there was loss of power to any homes or business in the area.
In Chatteris, weather stations recorded gusts of up to 46mph, approaching similar speeds to those experienced in the town during the St Jude storm in October.
In East Cambridgeshire, there were reports of a tree falling into and blocking one lane of the B1381, Chain Causeway, near Sutton and in High Street, Haddenham.
On the A10 between Cambridge and Ely, traffic was buffeted by strong gusts, causing one lorry to come off the road near Little Thetford and a tree to come down onto the road, causing tailbacks.
According to weather stations located in Ely, the highest gusts were recorded at more than 25mph between 12 and 1pm.
Cambridgeshire County Council announced just after 3pm that it was closing its Milton recycling centre because of the bad weather.
