The people of Dereham lined the town's streets to acknowledge the bravery of service personnel past and present.

As part of hundreds of events being staged across the country as part of Armed Forces Day, a parade and service of thanksgiving was held in Dereham.

The fifth annual day aims to raise public awareness of the contribution made by members of the Armed Forces and gives people a chance to show their support for serving troops, service families, veterans and cadets.

In Dereham, crowds headed to the Market Place as the town's band proudly led standards of military associations and ex service personnel towards Church Street to St Nicholas' Church.

The salute was taken on the way to the church by Dereham mayor Kate Millbank.

Tens of people headed into the church for a service of thanksgiving led by Dereham team ministry rector Canon Sally Theakston.

Opening the service, she said: 'In the presence of God, we remember all the serving men and women in our armed forces, especially those serving today and those whose lives have been given and taken away.'

The church service combined the laying up of the standard of Norfolk County No 6 Group of the Royal British Legion. The standard will now be kept at St Nicholas' Church.
